Botanic Gardens Upgrade Centennial Project - Update to Club 28th September 2020
  • The Club Sub-Committee for this Project (Di Harrison, Barry Dunstan, Bill Connell, Len Cairns, Alan Bishop, met on the 23rd September at the Botanic Gardens to review progress.
  • Reviewed Grant applications to date and noted Club’s application for $7000 from Latrobe City Council was unsuccessful with an opportunity to reapply in March 2021.
  • Agreed to wait until application to Energy Australia for funds for a replacement BBQ from their Project funds and then review if we are to proceed with the Project as previously outlined to Club.
  • Sub-Committee to then prepare a full submission, once the outcome of Council Elections are know, and to firstly present this to our two Councillors and then Council Officers.
  • Sub-Committee reviewed: The internal arrangement in “Pash’s” Pavilion and whether a rearrangement of seating would be better, subsequently agreed there is no gain in this. But there is room to mount a double BBQ of modern design.
  • Small Rotunda was inspected and agreed to seek quote for roof replacement then Club to repair and repaint ASAP.
  • Rotary Round Gardens (Swing Bridge Garden): noted that it has been cleaned up and awaiting replanting.
  • Position of gardens beds established for Len Cairns’ Rotary District Funded Flower beds. This project ready to proceed and some materials already purchased.
  • Memorial wall inspected and agreed that it should stay as and where it is.
  • Future projects. Raise with Council the need for new pathways and improved drainage and Disabled parking in the parking area.
