Business Excellence Awards

(Recently circulated as a personal email, urgent attention required for tonights meeting)

As in previous years, the Rotary Club of Moe is seeking nominations for a Vocational Business Excellence Award to a local Moe business in recognition of their service to the community.

The award is aimed at recognising a business owner who has demonstrated their commitment to raise the profile of the Moe Business Community and assisting in the economic viability of our town.

Nominations close 13 May, after the meeting.

Rotarians can email me requesting a nomination form or come armed with their nomination, and how they meet either of the two criteria.

Criterion 1 – Customer Service / Products

(eg Product availability; Atmosphere; Courtesy; Response to customer needs; After sales service)

Criterion 2 – Contribution to Local Community / Support for Young People

(eg History of business in Moe; Donations of $ / goods for community fundraising; Support for local events, Opportunities for work experience; Mentoring)

Thanks

Robin

Cyclone Kenneth in Malawi
Cyclone Kenneth crossed through the Lakeshore area of Nkhatabay Malawi on Wednesday/Thursday 1st and 2nd of May.
Wilson Village is situated on the lake and will have been effected by the cyclone.
At time of writing contact with Mtendere (first aid attendant) at the Centre is not possible as all communications in the area are down, therefore the amount of damage to  buildings/flooding, total injuries and or deaths are unknown. (No reporting on the net)
Medical supplies will be needed as all will be depleted.

Should you wish to help with restocking supplies, (no donation too small) following is our banking details.

Thank you very much

The goose that laid the golden egg

..to destroy something that makes you rich, successful, etc. through greed

From a fable by Aesop about a peasant farmer who had the good fortune to own a goose that laid golden eggs.

The peasant thought that if he killed the goose he could get all the eggs at once. However, by killing the goose, he lost his source of future wealth

Winter Solstice

Winter solstice was last Friday 21 June 2019

Here in Australia, we're celebrating the winter solstice - an astronomical phenomenon that occurs each year in June as the Earth orbits the sun. It is the shortest day of the year and the longest night, and the point at which the earth begins her slow turn towards the light

From the 21st, the days in Australia and the rest of the Southern hemisphere will continue to get longer as the earth continues to orbit the sun, getting closer to the sun each day until it reaches the December summer solstice

The solstice has been observed for many thousands of years, as long as people have marked time by the skies, and its a wonderful time of year to retreat inwards and reflect on the wonders of nature
