Di's Dialogue # 16

What a wonderful week! The weather is improving and the restrictions are easing. It was lovely to see people outside cafes and students walking to and from school. The rhythm to our everyday life is slowly beginning to return!

I received a lovely email from Lisa Twigger, Community Engagement Officer, Latrobe Regional Hospital, seeking support from Rotarians for the LRH Virtual Run & Walk to be held over the weekend of 28-29 November. You can register online individually or as part of a team for a 10km run, a 5km run or 5km walk. I am hoping we can get a Rotary Club of Moe team together to do a 5 km walk along the Moe Rail Trail, ending at the Adventure Playground. This would be a great opportunity to promote our club and raise money for the hospital's Emergency Department. If you are interested, please contact me. More information is included in this bulletin.

Thank you Kishor for your  'At the Podium' presentation titled, 'The Accidental Pharmacist'. It was  interesting how the practice of dispensing has adapted to the 'e-health' environment and the need to educate people, not only about medications but also how to use technology. Very different from Kishor's memories as a child of the hand reaching out across the counter to take a script and then passing back the medicine.

Thanks to Rog Taylor for organising the Melbourne Cup Eve and ARH Hat Day celebration this coming Monday. I am really looking forward to the horse draw for the Melbourne Cup sweep and also the Melbourne Cup trivia quiz.  Please read the email from Robin Noakes (with Zoom link) for further information as well as information included by Rog in the bulletin.

My quote for this week is from W.C Fields an American comedian, actor, juggler and writer whose comic persona was a misanthropic and hard-drinking egotist who remained a sympathetic character despite his supposed contempt for children and dogs.

'Horse sense is the thing a horse has which keeps it from betting on people'

See you all on Monday night in your racing finery or fancy hat to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health - Mental Health Week!

November 2: Melbourne Cup Eve and Hat Day for Mental Health

As we have had to forego our usual social get-togethers because of COVID restrictions, Rotarians have missed out on some of the fun aspects of Rotary.

President Di is keen to inject some pazzaz into the meeting on 2 November, with a Melbourne Cup Eve program, albeit on Zoom.

As we usually raise funds for Australian Rotary Health in October, Hat Day will also be incorporated into the evening.

Aspects of the Program Include -

*It’s an Opportunity to Host a Friend
*Dress up theme for “At the Races”

*Dress up theme for Hat Day -  (it could be race gear or any funny or your favourite stunning or amusing hat)
*Melbourne Cup Trivia.

*Melbourne Cup Sweep -  As we are time poor at Zoom meetings, there will be just one $5.00 sweep this year, only for members, and Hutchy and Rog will conduct the draw, and announce horses during the meeting.

*Cost - A charge of $6.00 per head is suggested to cover both a horse draw and a $1.00 donation to ARH for Mental Health Week.

*Payment Arrangements – Payments of $6.00 should be made online into our Rotary account

BSB 033-128  Account Number 108118 before the event. (NOTE: account correction!)

(If you choose to make a more substantial donation to ARH it can be included in your payment.) Remember to include your name and amount when making your payment.
Treasurer Helen will announce our ARH contribution at a future meeting.

*Distribution of Winnings – Once all payments have been received, winners will be paid out.
Footnote: While organisers are making the assumption that all members would wish to participate in the sweep, there is no compulsion. Just notify me if you prefer not to join in the sweep.

LRH Virtual Fun Run & Walk

The LRH Virtual Fun Run & Walk is all about creating a fun race and you choose the finish line!

Sign up solo or get a team together and kick start your health and well-being goals while raising money for the hospital’s Emergency Department.

Register online either individually or as part of a team for a 10km run, a 5km run or a 5km walk.

Complete your race at any time over the weekend of Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November 2020. You can compete from any location you choose. Run, jog or walk on the road, on a beach, on a trail or track.

The event will be professionally timed by the Sportsplits Tracker and you will be able to compare a side-by-side view of your own route versus our actual course route.

Everyone will receive a personalised medal after the event and will also be able to download a commemorative certificate.

Fantastic to hear that the Moe Rotary Club is as innovative as ever and that you are all still connecting be it still virtually at this stage. I would be extremely grateful if you could share the information about the LRH Virtual Fun Run & Walk with your networks.

It would be great to see a team from the Moe Rotary Club – maybe you could issue a challenge to other Rotary Clubs to get on board?

As mentioned this event is raising money for the purchase of a trauma stretcher for the hospital’s Emergency Department, you can read more about the event and our cause on the link below:
