Robin's Rambles #12

Our meeting on Monday 12th started with a respectful 1 minute of silence to honour the memory of
Queen Elizabeth II. As a sovereign she worked tirelessly in the service of her people. I thank everyone for
participating in the moment.

Lyn Cassar advised the club of a music and supper fund raiser to be held at the Moe racecourse Function
Room on Saturday November 5th . Jefferson Smith is the entertainer and his music spans the 60s 70s and
80s, covering their greatest hits. Tickets are $30 pp or a bargain at $240 for at table of 8.

Our guest speaker Brad Graham spoke about his RYLA experience. He reminded us of his first meeting
of our club in 2018, when he was seeking support to go to Cambodia. He was subsequently nominated
by us to attend RYLA 2019. He got so much out of it that he volunteered to become an event leader.
COVID sabotaged several event dates, but eventually a District 9820/9810 program was put together for
July 2022. Brad spoke to the level of enthusiasm in the attendees, their willingness to step outside
comfort zones, and the quality of the presenters. As a leadership development program we saw how
much Brad had grown in his own self confidence and capabilities. It is evident that this program gives a
lot to the attendees. Thank you Brad for sharing some of the RYLA “Magic” with us.

Barry deftly ran the Grumble, where the pool has grown to $200+. Julian’s name was selected by the
random number generator, and his proxy drew $9 for him.

Our tribute to Australia was presented by Alan Bishop who told us about the breed origins of the Blue
Heeler and Kelpie. Each breed enabled Australian farmers to manage their herds more efficiently, and
really helped the prosperity of the Australian livestock industry. A role they play to this day.

On 15 September I voted in accordance with the Clubs wishes in the D9820 Zone 8 Regionalisation
Vote.

Please remember there is no meeting on Monday 19 September. A Board meeting is being held on the
21st .

See you all again at Club Assembly on the 26th Sept.
