A short note this week.

I hope that you are all keeping well or, for those with ailments, getting better. Special thoughts to teams Dunstan, Yeatman and Hunt.  It seems that we are beset with a raft of issues at the moment.
Roll on warmer days.

May I please put a call out to all members. We plan to have a fun social night on Monday 12th September based on the theme of “ A trip down Memory Lane”.  Would you kindly dig in you old shoe boxes/brown suitcases for old photos of club members.  Lend them to me so they can be scanned and added to the good work already done by Club Historian Ross.

These will provide a resource for the Memory Lane slide show. Any digital images also much appreciated. Your reward will be that I can give you back your photos in scanned form as well.

Our meeting on Monday 25 July is Club Assembly, which will also be on Zoom for those unable to attend in person. Please let me know if attending on Zoom.

Cranes For Ukraine

Sadako Sasaki is the name of the girl that started making 1000 paper cranes to stand for peace.

A victim of the bombing of Hiroshima, she eventually developed leukaemia and was hospitalised.

Her friend, Chizuko Hamamoto, folded a paper crane, in reference to the ancient Japanese story that promises anyone who folds a 1000 origami cranes will be granted a wish by the crane.

Sadako folded 644 before her death in 1955 and her friends finished the rest and buried them with her.

DGNE Linda Humphries has a goal to raise money by selling origami cranes to raise awareness of loss and death happening in Ukraine.

Linda explained that ‘Instead of the maker being granted a wish, people who have lost many things should be granted one.’

Once all 1000 cranes have been sold, DGNE Linda will make a $5000.00 donation to the Foundation Disaster Fund, specifying Ukraine.

At our meeting on Monday, the 10 cranes given to IPP Di Harrison were quickly sold out with an extra donation made, making a total contribution from Moe Rotarians of $60.00.

Thank you to everyone who supported the ‘Cranes for Ukraine’ initiative.
